Location

Overview

Sanganeb is a ring-shaped coral atoll off Port Sudan, with a lighthouse built by the British in 1958 standing at its center. In 2016 it was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage list together with the nearby Dungonab Bayโ€“Mukkawar Island Marine National Park. Its walls form a sheer drop-off plunging past 800m, and it holds an unusually high density of large fish for the southern Red Sea. It is a remote site reachable only by liveaboard.
