Sainam Rock is a roughly 70-meter granite cliff that rises above the Namjocheon Stream in Daegang-myeon, Danyang, and is one of the celebrated Eight Scenic Views of Danyang. Its Cretaceous biotite granite, split into stacked columns by well-developed horizontal and vertical joints, looks like a folding screen carved by nature, and it was designated National Scenic Site No. 47 in 2008. It is named after U Tak, a late-Goryeo scholar who lingered here while holding the court post of 'Sain,' and the cliff was famously painted by the artist Kim Hong-do and praised by the calligrapher Kim Jeong-hui.

SafetyThe stream deepens abruptly between boulders and has spots with whirlpools; stay outside the rope-marked danger zones and do not enter roped-off areas.
SafetyThe cliff faces and flat rocks are extremely slippery when wet - take care to avoid slips and falls when crossing the stream or climbing onto rocks.
SeasonDuring the summer monsoon the Namjocheon can rise fast and turn into a strong current, so avoid entering the valley during or right after heavy rain.
MannersCheongnyeonam is an active temple where monks pray, so keep quiet and be respectful within its grounds.
RulesThis is a protected National Scenic Site and geosite - do not add graffiti to the historic cliff engravings, and do not damage or remove rocks or stones.
Practical info
It lies about 8 km south of Danyang town in Sainam-ri, Daegang-myeon. Use the public parking lot in front of the information center; admission and parking are reported to be free and the site is open year-round (confirm fees and hours with Danyang-gun tourism before visiting). It is roughly a 2-hour drive from Seoul.
