Overview
The Royal Alcázar of Seville began as a 10th-century fortress and was transformed in the 14th century by King Pedro I into a Mudéjar-style palace, making it Spain's premier royal complex where Islamic and Christian art fuse. A UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the oldest royal palaces still in use in Europe, it dazzles with ornate patios, intricate stucco work, and sprawling gardens. It is also famous as the Water Gardens of Dorne filming location in Game of Thrones.

RulesIn peak season (April–September), popular time-slot tickets sell out days ahead. Only about 50 same-day tickets are sold at the box office and go by mid-morning, so advance online booking via the official site (alcazarsevilla.org) is essentially required. Confirm current prices and hours.

CautionAround the Cathedral and in Santa Cruz, women may press a sprig of rosemary into your hand as a 'gift,' read your fortune, then demand around €10 and make a scene. Don't take it; even if it's pushed on you, say 'no, gracias' and keep walking.
SafetyPickpocketing concentrates in the Cathedral queues, Santa Cruz lanes, Plaza de España, and on public transport. Wear bags in front and mind wallets and phones in back pockets.
SeasonSummer (July–August) can approach 40°C. With little shade in the gardens, the 09:30 opening slot is the best way to beat both heat and crowds. Bring water, a hat, and sun protection.

Open daily from 09:30; spring/summer until around 19:00 (varies by season; last entry one hour before closing). General ticket about €12.50; Cuarto Real Alto adds about €4.50. The last hour before closing on Mondays is free, but requires advance online reservation and is capped (around 750 people), selling out fast. Allow 2–3 hours.
