Overview
Rio da Prata is an eco-snorkeling attraction (locally called a 'flutuação', or float) inside the RPPN Fazenda Cabeceira do Prata, a private natural heritage reserve created in 1999 in the town of Jardim, Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil. Its limestone bedrock naturally filters the water, so you drift downstream in a life vest through glass-clear water that stays transparent even after rain, watching schools of piraputanga, dourado and other fish glide past — the reason it has repeatedly been voted one of Brazil's best tourist attractions. As of 2026 it remains the flagship premium ecotour of the Bonito region, run strictly by advance reservation, and because no swimming ability is required it is especially popular with families.

SeasonThe June–September dry season is best for both weather and water quality: clearest water and the lowest chance of rain. The river usually stays clear year-round due to limestone filtration, but visibility can drop right after heavy downpours, so book a morning slot when possible.
RulesSunscreen and insect repellent are prohibited to protect the ecosystem. Do not apply them before entering the water; use a rash guard or long sleeves for sun protection instead.
RulesBonito and Jardim use a mandatory 'Voucher Único' (single digital voucher) system — you must book in advance through an accredited local agency to enter and tour. Capacity is capped and high-season slots sell out, so reserve several days ahead; the voucher is personal and non-transferable.
CautionTour prices are officially fixed ('tabelado') across accredited agencies, so there is no price difference between them. Avoid unofficial touts or cash deals that are unusually cheap or expensive, and book only through a licensed agency with a proper voucher.
SafetyA credentialed guide always accompanies you and the life vest is worn at all times. Do not touch the fish, aquatic plants or the riverbed, and stay floating so your feet do not stir up sediment and cloud the water.
MannersPhotos, souvenirs and lunch are often paid on site, so carry some small cash in Brazilian reais, and keep quiet on the forest trail and in the river so you don't disturb the wildlife.
SafetyThe reserve sits 50+ km from central Bonito in a remote area with almost no public transport. Arrange a rental car or agency pickup when you book.
