🇨🇿 Punkva Caves & Macocha Abyss

Punkevní jeskyně a propast Macocha, Moravský kras · 남모라비아주 (모라비아 카르스트)

Location

Overview

The Punkva Caves (Punkevní jeskyně) are the star attraction of the Moravian Karst (Moravský kras) in South Moravia. The tour combines an underground walk to the floor of the 138.7 m deep Macocha Abyss with an electric-boat cruise along the subterranean Punkva River — a rare walk-and-boat format that makes it one of Czechia's most popular caves. First explored in the early 20th century by Professor Karel Absolon, the site remains hugely in demand: in 2026, summer weekends and the whole April–October season routinely sell out weeks ahead, so booking is essentially mandatory, while the clifftop viewpoints over the abyss stay free. It suits travelers who want a nature/cave outing paired with a short river cruise.

Practical info

The nearest railway station is Blansko; the hub is the Skalní mlýn Central Information Center, from which the caves are about 1.6 km on foot or reachable by the road eco-train and cable car. The info center runs roughly 8:00–16:30 (Apr–Sep) and 8:00–15:00 (Oct–Mar); prices, hours and any winter closures change by season, so confirm the latest details on the official site.
