The Puente Nuevo ("New Bridge") is the iconic stone bridge spanning the El Tajo gorge in the clifftop town of Ronda, Andalusia, Spain. Built between 1759 and 1793, it rises roughly 120 metres above the Guadalevín River and links Ronda's old Moorish quarter with the newer town. A chamber above its central arch, once used as a prison, now houses a small interpretation centre.

SafetyThe cobbled path down into the gorge is very steep and uneven. Wear comfortable, sturdy shoes; it is not suitable for those with limited mobility, strollers or wheelchairs.
SafetyViewpoints and cliff edges have railings but very high drops. Do not lean over railings for photos, and keep a firm hold on children.
CautionRonda is a busy tourist destination and the bridge and viewpoints get crowded in peak season. Guard against pickpockets and bag-snatching—wear bags in front and keep zips closed.
RulesThe gorge path (Camino del Desfiladero del Tajo) is a paid attraction (around €5) that is typically card-only and does not accept cash (confirm current details).
RulesSince August 2025, vehicle restrictions limit crossing the bridge to cars registered and taxed in Ronda. Rental-car visitors should use car parks off the bridge (e.g. Plaza del Socorro).
SeasonCrowds peak in spring and autumn and around midday. For softer light and fewer people, visit early morning or late afternoon.
Practical info
Walking across the bridge is free. The interpretation centre above the central arch charges a small fee (around €2.50, confirm current price), open Tue–Sun with reduced weekend hours. The gorge descent has a separate charge. Verify fees, hours and vehicle rules before your visit.
