Patong Beach is a roughly 3 km crescent-shaped bay on the west coast of Phuket, Thailand, that grew from a quiet fishing village into one of Southeast Asia's biggest beach and nightlife hubs. By day you can swim, take a beach massage, or try water sports like parasailing and jet skiing; by night the neon-lit Bangla Road comes alive. It sits about 40 km (45–60 min by car) from Phuket International Airport.

CautionJet ski scams are notorious here: operators may claim pre-existing scratches are 'new damage' and demand 10,000–30,000 THB. Photograph and get written acknowledgment of any marks before renting — or skip jet skis entirely.
CautionTuk-tuks and taxis can cost several times more than in Bangkok. Always agree the fare before getting in; vehicles waiting near tourist spots may steer you to gem or tailor shops for commission, so prefer a ride-hailing app.
CautionOn Bangla Road, expect photo hustles (posing with costumed performers who then demand 100+ THB) and reports of drink-spiking robberies. Never leave your drink unattended and be wary of drinks offered by strangers.
SafetyDuring the southwest monsoon (May–October), Patong's bay shape produces especially strong rip currents. Never swim under a red flag (green = safe, yellow = caution); if caught in a current, swim parallel to shore to escape.
RulesSmoking is banned on Patong Beach under Thai law, with penalties of up to one year in prison or a 100,000 THB fine; use designated smoking areas only. Confirm current rules locally.
MannersSun loungers and beach chairs are not allowed on Patong Beach — rent or bring a mat and umbrella instead. At temples, cover shoulders and knees, remove your shoes, and avoid physical contact with monks.

The calm-sea high season is November–April. Beach smoking/alcohol rules, jet ski and tuk-tuk pricing, and alcohol retail hours (generally 11:00–14:00 and 17:00–24:00) can change, so verify the latest before you go. The legal drinking age is 20.
