Park Güell is Barcelona's landmark Catalan Modernist garden, designed by Antoni Gaudí for his patron Eusebi Güell and built between 1900 and 1914. Originally conceived as an upscale housing estate, the commercially unsuccessful project opened as a public park in 1926 and was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site ("Works of Antoni Gaudí") in 1984. It is famous for its trencadís broken-tile mosaics and sweeping views over the city and Mediterranean.
