Location

Overview

Off the village of Tan-awan in Oslob, at the southern tip of Cebu Island, Philippines, you can snorkel or dive beside wild whale sharks at remarkably close range. Launched in 2011, it is now the world's largest whale shark tourism operation, with visitors paddling out on outrigger boats for a 30-minute in-water encounter. Note that the sharks are drawn in by hand-feeding shrimp, which fuels serious animal-welfare and ethical debate, so weigh the decision carefully before joining.
