The Holy Trinity Column (Sloup Nejsvětější Trojice) in Olomouc is a roughly 35 m tall Baroque monument built between 1716 and 1754, raised in thanksgiving for the end of the plague that struck Moravia in 1713–1715 and as an expression of Catholic faith and local civic pride — every artist and craftsman who worked on it was an Olomouc citizen. Considered the largest single grouping of Baroque sculpture in Central Europe, it was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2000 and is crowned by gilded copper figures of the Holy Trinity and the Assumption of the Virgin, surrounded by saints tied to the city. Note that a major restoration launched in April 2024 is due to finish around the end of 2026, so in 2026 the column may be partly or fully wrapped in scaffolding — visit with that in mind and enjoy it as the centrepiece of the Upper Square.

RulesA major restoration begun in April 2024 is scheduled to finish around the end of 2026 (by Christmas 2026), so scaffolding and protective sheeting may hide the sculptures or limit chapel access when you visit. Check current status with the tourist office or official site beforehand.
RulesThe outdoor column is free to view 24/7, but the chapel (kaple) in the base opens only seasonally and can be entered on guided tours. Opening times, dates and any fees must be confirmed locally as the latest information.
SeasonIt is an open-air monument on a square with little shade in the summer high season and very cold wind-chill in winter. Dress warmly in winter, bring a hat and water in summer, and check the square's events (Christmas market and others).
SafetyOlomouc is generally safe, but watch your belongings in crowds around the square and the train station. Keep clear of scaffolding and site fencing during the works and follow safety signage.

The column stands on the Upper Square (Horní náměstí) in central Olomouc, about 2–2.5 hours from Prague by direct train, then roughly a 15–25 minute walk or a short tram ride from Olomouc main station (Olomouc hlavní nádraží). Viewing the outdoor monument is free and open at all times, but the base chapel is seasonal and by guided tour only; given the 2026 restoration, confirm opening hours and any fees with the local tourist information centre (TIC, +420 585 513 385) or the official site as the latest information.
