Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium, set inside Ocean Expo Park on the Motobu Peninsula, is one of Japan's largest aquariums and a signature stop on any Okinawa trip. Its centerpiece is the Kuroshio Sea tank, a roughly 7,500-cubic-meter mega-tank viewed through an acrylic panel 8.2 m tall, 22.5 m wide and 60 cm thick, where whale sharks and manta rays glide overhead. The exhibits vividly showcase the marine life of Okinawa's Kuroshio Current waters.

RulesThe 'Above-Water Viewing Course' (Kuroshio Explorer) that lets you look down into the main tank is scheduled to be closed for entrance-elevator renovation from March 2 to July 31, 2026 (tentative) — verify its operating status on the official site before visiting.
SeasonWeekends, public holidays and the roughly 10:00–15:00 window are the most crowded. Arrive right after opening (around 8:30) or about two hours before closing to enjoy the main tank with fewer people.
SafetyThe aquarium is in northern Okinawa, about a 2-hour drive or 2–3-hour express bus ride from Naha Airport. If self-driving, plan for the long round trip and avoid an over-packed day trip and nighttime mountain-road driving.
MannersThe area in front of the main tank is a popular, crowded photo spot. Refrain from flash and tripods, don't monopolize the glass for long photo sessions, and make room for other visitors.
CautionThe former 'After 4 PM' discount ticket ended in March 2023, and there are now no time-based discounts. Be wary of resale tickets claiming such deals; buy genuine discounted tickets from official/authorized online platforms or roadside stations (michi-no-eki).

Access: about 2 hours by rental car from Naha Airport, or 2–3 hours by express bus (Yanbaru Express, Okinawa Airport Shuttle, etc.). Parking is free at Ocean Expo Park (entering via the North Gate is recommended). Note that road signs read 'Ocean Expo Park' rather than the aquarium name. Discount tickets are available online in advance or at roadside stations.
