Oedo Botania is a private sea-garden island off the coast of Geoje, in South Gyeongsang Province, Korea. A couple began cultivating the barren island in 1969 and, after decades of work, opened it as a garden in 1995; today it holds around 3,000 plant species across roughly 16 themed gardens with Mediterranean-style buildings. It is often called a 'European garden floating on the sea' and can only be reached by ferry.

RulesTime on the island is capped at roughly two hours, and you must return on the same ferry you arrived on, so keep to the posted departure time (verify latest).
SafetyFerries may be canceled and landing blocked in typhoons or heavy swells when boats cannot dock; check the operating status before you set out.
SafetyThe crossing can be rough; since 2025, motion-sickness medicine is no longer sold at the ticket office or shops, so buy any you need at a pharmacy beforehand.
SeasonThe whole island is a hillside garden with many slopes and stairs, so wear comfortable shoes and bring a hat, sunglasses and a light layer against sun and sea wind.
RulesThe ferry fare and the Oedo island admission are charged separately; the entry ticket is usually bought together with your boarding ticket (fares vary by operator and season, verify latest).
MannersAs a private botanical garden, picking or damaging plants is prohibited; weekends and holidays get very crowded, so arrive at the ticket office early.
Practical info
Ferries depart from several ports such as Jangseungpo, Dojangpo, Gujora and Haegeumgang, and some routes include cruising past Haegeumgang. There is no ATM on the island, so bring cash or a card. Weekends and peak season are far busier than weekdays, so an early visit is best. Confirm current fares, sailing times and visiting hours before you go.
