Location

Overview

Obyan Beach (local name Unai Obyan) sits at Saipan's southern tip, right below the international airport's runway, and is famous for offering some of the island's best shore-entry reef snorkeling. The shallow in-reef lagoon is calm and easy for beginners and kids, while a short swim out leads to a dramatic drop-off where white-tip reef sharks, eagle rays, sea turtles, a resident garden-eel colony and abundant hard and soft coral can be spotted. Visibility stays excellent year-round, typically 50-70 ft (about 15-21 m), unless a typhoon warning is in effect, and water temperatures run a warm 28-30Β°C. As of July 2026 it remains one of Saipan's top snorkel spots, largely unchanged in access and marine life.

Practical info

It's about a 10-minute drive from Saipan International Airport, reached via a rough dirt/coral road near Isley Field to a shore-entry point β€” no boat or tour is required, though guided snorkel trips are also available. There are no restaurants nearby and only limited restrooms, so bring your own water and food; check current road conditions and any typhoon advisories before you go.
