Nodeul Island is an oval island in the middle of the Han River, sitting on the Hangang Bridge between Yongsan and Noryangjin. Its name comes from an old word meaning the spot where egrets played, and today it is a music-focused cultural complex and a beloved local picnic and sunset spot. Wide free lawns sit alongside a bookshop, a live-music hall, and cafes for an easy escape in the city.

RulesThe 'Nodeul Global Art Island' redevelopment broke ground in October 2025; the north walkway and parts of the central plaza (about 1.2km) are closed off, with full reopening targeted for 2028. Check which areas are currently open before you go.
SeasonIn summer the Hangang Bridge walkway and lawns offer little shade and strong sun. Visit later in the afternoon (roughly after 4pm), and bring a hat, water, and sunscreen.
SeasonBeing on the river, evenings bring mosquitoes. Pack repellent, a picnic mat, and a power bank for comfort.
SafetyYou reach the island on foot along the Hangang Bridge via stairs or an elevator. At night, follow construction signage and detour routes and take care near the water's edge and railings.
RulesIndoor facilities close on Mondays and on Jan 1, Seollal, and Chuseok, and hours shift by season and construction status. Verify the latest fees, hours, and closures before visiting.
Practical info
Take Seoul Subway Line 9 to Nodeul Station (Exit 2) and walk across the Hangang Bridge, about 10-15 minutes. Parking is very limited (first 30 min ₩1,000, up to ₩15,000/day; verify latest), so public transit or a bike is best. Entry to the outdoor areas is free.
