🇺🇸 Niagara Falls (American Falls)

American Falls, Niagara Falls State Park · 나이아가라

Location

Overview

The American Falls is the U.S. section of Niagara Falls, dropping entirely on the New York side of the Niagara River. It is about 320 m (1,050 ft) wide with a face of roughly 21–30 m (69–98 ft), making it the second-largest of the three falls. While the Canadian Horseshoe Falls carries most of the water, only about 10% of the summer flow spills over the American Falls — yet its walkways bring you closer to the rushing water than almost anywhere else. The surrounding Niagara Falls State Park, opened in 1885 and designed by landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted, is the oldest state park in the United States. As of summer 2026 the park and its main attractions are operating normally, and because viewing the falls is free, even a short stop is rewarding.
