🇹🇼 National Taichung Theater

臺中國家歌劇院 · 타이중(Taichung)

Location

Overview

The National Taichung Theater was designed by Japanese architect Toyo Ito (a Pritzker Prize laureate) around the concept of a "sound cave," featuring flowing curved walls with no right angles and virtually no straight support columns. It had a partial opening in 2014 and officially opened in 2016, housing three performance halls (a Grand Theater of about 2,000 seats, a Playhouse, and a Black Box) plus a rooftop Sky Garden. You do not need a performance ticket to enter, so many travelers come simply to experience the architecture itself.
