🇺🇸 National Mall

National Mall · 워싱턴 D.C.

Location

Overview

The National Mall is Washington, D.C.'s landmark open park, a landscaped expanse stretching roughly two miles from the U.S. Capitol to the Lincoln Memorial. Lined along its lawns are the Washington Monument, the Lincoln Memorial, the World War II, Vietnam, and Korean War memorials, the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial, and the world's largest cluster of free Smithsonian museums - far more than can be seen in a single day. 2026 marks the 250th anniversary of American independence (America250), so the Mall hosts an unusually full calendar of ceremonies and improvement projects; plan for larger crowds and occasional access restrictions.

Practical info

The easiest access is the Smithsonian station on Metro's Orange/Blue/Silver lines, or the Federal Triangle, L'Enfant Plaza, or Foggy Bottom stations; the Mall runs about an hour on foot end to end, so it is best explored in sections. The outdoor park and memorials are free and open 24 hours, while Smithsonian museums are generally free from about 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. (closed December 25) - confirm opening hours and whether tickets are required on the official sites before visiting.
