Overview

Nakameguro is a stylish residential district in Tokyo's Meguro Ward, famous for the roughly 800 Somei-Yoshino cherry trees that arch over the Meguro River. The riverside is lined with chic cafes, boutiques and select shops, anchored by the Kengo Kuma-designed Starbucks Reserve Roastery Tokyo. Just about five minutes by train from Shibuya, it is beloved as one of Tokyo's coolest neighborhoods for a leisurely stroll.

Practical info

The blossom promenade starts right outside Nakameguro Station on the Tokyo Metro Hibiya Line and Tokyu Toyoko Line (about 5 minutes from Shibuya). Expect crowd control and one-way pedestrian flow on peak-season weekends, so weekday mornings are best. The Starbucks Roastery issues timed tickets and has waits at peak times, so arrive near opening. Confirm festival dates, illumination hours and any fees against the latest information before you go.
