Naganeupseong is a Joseon-era walled town in Nagan-myeon, Suncheon (South Jeolla), designated a national Historic Site in 1983. Its roughly 1,410 m stone wall and the thatched-roof village inside survive largely in their original form, ranking it alongside Haemi and Gochang as one of Korea's finest eupseong. Most notably, it is a 'living heritage' site where around 100 households still actually reside.
Wall walk: circling the ~1,410 m fortress wall for elevated views over the thatched village and surrounding fields is the highlight.
A real village: not a staged set, but centuries-old thatched houses where residents still farm and run guesthouses.
Historic government buildings: the magistrate's hall (dongheon), guest house (gaeksa), and old monuments are preserved together.
Weekend performances: traditional gugak such as pansori, gayageum, and nongak folk music are staged on weekends.
Thatched-house homestay: you can spend a night in a traditional thatched home inside the walls.

MannersThis is a real, inhabited village. Do not peer into or enter private yards and homes uninvited, and respect residents' privacy.

SeasonIn summer the village has little shade and gets very hot and sunny; in winter opening hours are shortened, so check the closing time in advance.
SeasonDuring autumn events like the Nagan Folk Culture Festival (Oct 17–19, 2026), expect heavy crowds and parking congestion, so consider public transport and an early visit.

From Suncheon Station or the bus terminal, city buses 63/68 take about 40 min, but service is infrequent (fewer than ~20 runs a day combined), so check the timetable in advance.
