🇮🇹 Murano Island

Murano · 베네치아

Location

Overview

Murano is a cluster of small islands linked by bridges in the northern Venetian Lagoon, and it has been the 'Glass Island' for over 700 years, ever since Venice moved its furnaces here in 1291 to reduce fire risk. Working glass studios still let you watch artisans blow and shape molten glass, and a Glass Museum and a church famed for its mosaic floor round out an easy day on foot. It sits just 15-45 minutes from central Venice by vaporetto (water bus), making it a natural half-day pairing with Burano.

Practical info

From Fondamente Nove in central Venice take vaporetto lines 4.1/4.2 (about 15 min) or line 3 from Piazzale Roma/the station. A single ticket is about €9.50 (valid 75 min), so a 24-hour pass (about €25) pays off if you island-hop. Colonna stop is best for studios, Museo stop for the museum.
