Overview
Mullae Art Village is an alleyway art quarter that grew inside a former ironworks district in Yeongdeungpo, western Seoul. Around 1,000 metal workshops still operate here alongside more than 300 artists working out of some 100 studios, creating a striking mix of rusted steel lanes, murals, welded sculptures and retro cafes. There is no admission fee, and the whole neighborhood functions as one open-air gallery.

MannersOn weekday daytimes the metal workshops are actively working; keep quiet, do not block the lanes, and stay out of craftsmen's way.
MannersAlways ask permission before photographing workers or the inside of a workshop. Signs throughout the alleys ask visitors to respect portrait rights.
SafetyThis is still a live industrial zone with uneven ground and materials or equipment lying about. Wear comfortable shoes and watch your footing.
SafetyAs a factory district it becomes quiet, dark and sparsely peopled at night. It is safest to explore during daylight hours.
RulesThe alleys are always free and open, but individual studios, galleries and cafes often close on Mondays, Sundays or public holidays. Check current opening hours before you go.
Practical info
Take Seoul Subway Line 2 to Mullae Station, Exit 7, then walk about 3 minutes. Weekends, holidays, or weekdays after 6 p.m. are best for photos because the shutters (painted with art) and sculptures are exposed once workshops close, but many shops are also shut then, so choose your timing to match your goal.
