The Mui Ne Sand Dunes are a desert-like stretch of dunes near the coastal town of Mui Ne in Binh Thuan Province, southern Vietnam, famous for two contrasting sites: the iron-rich 'Red Dunes' and the near-pure 'White Dunes'. Sweeping sand ridges set against the sea and fishing village make it a beloved sunrise and sunset spot. The White Dunes lie roughly 20-30 minutes from town by car and the Red Dunes about 10-15 minutes, so half-day jeep tours that combine both are hugely popular.
White Dunes (Bau Trang): Mui Ne's largest, most striking near-white dunes that glow a pearly white in the early morning light.

CautionQuad-bike / ATV overcharging: touts in orange shirts swarm visitors and push high prices such as 300,000-400,000 VND per person for 20 minutes or 800,000-900,000 VND for a group, while actual riding often lasts only a few minutes. Agree a price up front and decline firmly if you don't want it.
SafetyQuad bikes are often rented with no helmet and little or no safety briefing. Steep dune faces and other riders make crashes a real risk, so keep speeds low and don't overdo it.
SafetyThere is zero shade and the midday sand gets extremely hot. Wear closed shoes rather than sandals or bare feet, and bring a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen and plenty of water. Visit at sunrise or late afternoon to avoid heat and burns.
CautionSome travelers report police checkpoints on the road to the White Dunes challenging foreign/motorbike licenses and demanding fines of 300,000-1,500,000 VND; a non-Vietnamese license often isn't accepted. A guided tour or taxi is safer than self-driving a motorbike.
MannersAt sunrise, local children may approach offering sandboards or sleds for tips or a sale. Decline politely if not interested, and settle any price before you use one.
SeasonThe dry season (Nov-Apr) is clear, breezy and the best time to visit. The rainy season (May-Oct) brings short afternoon showers but is relatively mild. Confirm seasons, fees and tour times before you go.
Practical info
A taxi from town runs roughly 200,000 VND one way; local buses (routes 1 and 9) are very cheap (verify current fares). Sunrise jeep tours typically depart around 4:30 am. Entrance is a small fee, with activities charged separately. Carry cash in Vietnamese dong in small notes, as it's more useful than card.
