Mount Titlis rises to 3,020 m above the village of Engelberg in Central Switzerland and is famous for Rotair, the world's first revolving cable car, and the Titlis Cliff Walk, the highest suspension bridge in Europe. In June 2026 the summit was transformed by the new TITLIS Tower and its Horizon Deck viewing platform, a 76-metre landmark designed by Swiss architects Herzog & de Meuron as the first piece of a CHF 150 million redevelopment. Note that the iconic Rotair is closed for renewal from August to 11 December 2026, during which the new Titlis Connect cableway carries visitors to the top. With snow and glacier year-round, it is one of the most popular day trips from Lucerne.
Rotair, the world's first 360° revolving cable car, makes one full rotation on the roughly five-minute ride from Stand to the summit (closed Aug–Dec 2026; replaced by the Titlis Connect cableway).
The Titlis Cliff Walk, Europe's highest suspension bridge, is about 100 m long with a sheer 500 m drop beneath your feet.

SeasonThe summit sits at 3,020 m, so temperatures hover around freezing even in midsummer and winds are strong. Bring a warm jacket, gloves and a hat even in July and August.
SafetyAt high altitude the UV is intense and glare off the snow is severe, so sunglasses and sunscreen are essential. Some visitors feel light-headed at altitude, so avoid over-exertion.
RulesFrom August to 11 December 2026 the Rotair is closed for renewal and the summit is reached via the new Titlis Connect cableway. Check current operating status and weather closures at titlis.ch before you go.
CautionBuy tickets only through the official titlis.ch / shop.titlis.ch or authorized rail sellers, and be wary of third-party resale sites that add markups or sell non-refundable passes.
RulesA Swiss Travel Pass or Half Fare Card gives a discount (usually 50%) on the cableways. Booking online in advance is recommended in peak season and on weekends.
MannersTipping is not obligatory in Switzerland as service is included in the price; simply rounding up the bill is more than enough.
Practical info
From Lucerne it is about 45 minutes by train (Zentralbahn) to Engelberg station, then roughly 30 minutes on the cable cars via Trübsee and Stand to the 3,020 m summit. The mountain runs year-round but some facilities are limited during maintenance, so always confirm the latest fares, operating hours and the 2026 Rotair closure schedule on the official titlis.ch.
