六甲山 · 효고

Location

Overview

Mount Rokko (Rokkosan) is a mountain range stretching northeast of downtown Kobe in Hyogo Prefecture, Japan, with a highest peak of about 931 m. Reachable from central Kobe in roughly an hour by cable car and bus, it is celebrated for one of Japan's 'three great night views,' sweeping over Kobe Port and Osaka Bay. A cluster of hilltop attractions — a garden terrace, alpine botanical garden, a pasture, a music box museum, and a ropeway linking to Arima Onsen — makes it a year-round getaway.

Practical info

From Kobe Sannomiya, take the Hankyu Kobe Line to Rokko Station (about 7 min), then city bus No. 16 to the Rokko Cable base station; the cable car reaches Rokko Sanjo Station, where a circular hilltop bus links the attractions. The cable car is around ¥800 one way / ¥1,550 round trip, but fares, timetables, and whether facilities are open vary by season and the winter schedule — verify the latest details on the official sites before visiting.
