Location

Overview

Mount Mansfield (1,339 m), Vermont's highest peak, marks the high point of the Long Trail, the oldest long-distance trail in the United States, opened in 1910 and running 439 km. The Long Trail runs north–south along Vermont's Green Mountains from the Massachusetts border to the Canadian border, sharing about 160 km of route with the Appalachian Trail in its southern section. Mount Mansfield's summit ridge forms two peaks known as the 'Nose' and the 'Chin,' home to a rare preserved alpine tundra ecosystem.
