Overview

Mount Bromo is an active volcano (about 2,392 m) in Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park, East Java, Indonesia. It is world-famous for its smoking crater rising from a vast caldera plain known as the 'Sea of Sand,' and for the sunrise views from the Penanjakan and King Kong Hill viewpoints. It is also a sacred site for the Hindu Tengger people.

The national park is open 24 hours. Foreign entrance fees run roughly Rp 220,000 on weekdays and Rp 320,000 on weekends/holidays (varies by nationality and day, subject to change). On-the-spot cash is largely replaced by booking via the official portal (bromotenggersemeru.id). Sunrise is around 5:00 AM, so tours typically depart 3–4 AM. Always verify current fees, hours, rules and volcano alerts before visiting.
