Location

Overview

Mount Bisoke (3,711m) in Rwanda's Volcanoes National Park is a stratovolcano famous for the turquoise crater lake sitting in its summit crater, and it can be climbed round-trip in a single day on a permit separate from the park's mountain gorilla trekking. The route to the summit covers about 6km one way, taking 5-7 hours round trip, passing through bamboo forest and high-altitude bog before reaching the crater lake. The park borders both the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda, so the summit offers views across a shared volcanic range spanning three countries.
