SafetyThe dunes are disorienting, so never wander far alone — always go with a guide or organized tour. Bring sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat and a scarf to cope with the sun and blowing sand.
CautionA common trick is promising a camp 'deep inside the dunes' but placing you at one on the village edge. Before booking, confirm the camp is actually inside Erg Chebbi and how many minutes it is by camel, and book directly with a Merzouga-based operator rather than a middleman.

Practical info
Access is by Supratours from Fes (overnight bus) or Marrakech (about 12 hours direct), or by flying into Errachidia or Ouarzazate and driving; the nearest towns are Rissani (about 40 km) and Erfoud (about 60 km). From Merzouga village it is roughly a 45–60 minute camel ride into the dunes to reach camp. Trek and camp rates, departure times (about 18:00 in summer, 16:00 in other seasons) and accommodation tiers change by season, so confirm the latest details when you book.
