🇲🇦 Merzouga Camel Trek & Desert Camp

مرزوكة · 사하라 사막(메르주가)

Location

Overview

The Merzouga camel trek and desert camp is Morocco's signature Sahara experience, set at the foot of Erg Chebbi, a sea of orange dunes rising up to about 150 m on the desert's western edge near the Algerian border. The classic itinerary rides a dromedary out of the village at sunset, spends a night in a Berber-style camp among the dunes, and returns for sunrise. As of July 2026 it is peak summer, with midday heat approaching 45°C, so treks run only at sunrise and sunset; the most comfortable season to visit is October–April. Camps range from simple budget tents to luxury glamping, so you can match the trip to your taste and budget.

Access is by Supratours from Fes (overnight bus) or Marrakech (about 12 hours direct), or by flying into Errachidia or Ouarzazate and driving; the nearest towns are Rissani (about 40 km) and Erfoud (about 60 km). From Merzouga village it is roughly a 45–60 minute camel ride into the dunes to reach camp.
