Overview

The Mercedes-Benz Museum, next to the brand's headquarters in Stuttgart, traces more than 130 years of automotive history under one roof, from Carl Benz's 1886 patent motor car - widely regarded as the world's first automobile - to the present day. Its double-helix building by Dutch firm UNStudio is an attraction in itself: visitors ride to the top and spiral down two intertwined ramps through the decades. Opened in 2006 and marking its 20th anniversary in 2026, it makes a rewarding half-day stop for car enthusiasts and design and architecture lovers alike.
