Overview
The Mentawai Islands, roughly 100-150 km off the west coast of Sumatra, Indonesia, are a cluster of islands packed with world-renowned reef breaks such as Playgrounds and Lance's Right, earning the nickname 'surfing's holy grail' among surfers. Access is almost entirely via boat-based surf charters or resorts, and warm water plus consistent swell make surfing possible year-round. The dry season from April to October is considered peak, with the most consistent swell.
