Manjanggul Lava Tube is a world-class volcanic cave in Gujwa-eup on Jeju Island's northeast coast, part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site 'Jeju Volcanic Island and Lava Tubes' (Geomunoreum Lava Tube System) and a designated Natural Monument. Though the tube runs about 7.4 km, only roughly 1 km from Entrance No. 2 is open to visitors, ending at a 7.6 m lava column believed to be the largest of its kind in the world. It reopened in May 2026 after a two-and-a-half-year closure, with newly built walkway decks and lighting.

Good to know
SeasonThe cave stays cool year-round, roughly 11-21°C (around 13°C even in peak summer). The gap from outside temperatures is large, so bring a jacket or extra layer even in summer.
SafetyThe floor is damp, uneven, and dotted with sharp rocks and puddles, making it slippery. Wear sneakers or non-slip shoes, avoid high heels, and take extra care with children and older visitors.
SafetyInterior lighting is deliberately dim and it can be hard to see your footing. A flashlight or phone light helps, and watch your head where the ceiling is low.
RulesThis is a protected site: no food, no pets, and no smoking are allowed inside, and you cannot go beyond the open ~1 km section.
MannersTens of thousands of endangered bats roost near the upper part of Entrance 2. Avoid loud noise, flash photography, and touching the walls to protect the wildlife and the cave formations.
Practical info
Open 09:00-18:00 with last admission at 17:10; typically closed the first Wednesday of each month (verify the latest). Admission is around 4,000 won for adults and 2,000 won for youth/children, with group discounts (subject to change - confirm before your visit). It is about a one-hour drive from Jeju International Airport, and the round-trip walk takes roughly 40 minutes to an hour.
