The Maiden's Tower (Kız Kulesi, also called Leander's Tower) is an iconic tower standing alone on a tiny islet just off Üsküdar, at the entrance to the Bosphorus on Istanbul's Asian side. From an ancient watch-and-customs post it passed through Byzantine and Ottoman hands, serving over the centuries as a fortress, lighthouse and quarantine station, and reopened in May 2023 after a major 2021–2023 restoration. As of 2026 it operates as a visitor site with a small history museum, a café-restaurant and a 360-degree rooftop terrace. Reachable only by boat, it is a favourite spot for sunset and night-time photos.
