Magic Kingdom, which opened in 1971, is the original and most-visited theme park at Walt Disney World, built around Cinderella Castle and divided into themed lands. It pairs beloved classics like Pirates of the Caribbean, the Haunted Mansion and "it's a small world" with the newer Tron Lightcycle / Run coaster (2023) and a nightly castle projection-and-fireworks show. As of 2026 the former Tom Sawyer Island and Rivers of America area is closed for a major expansion — the Cars-themed "Piston Peak" and a "Villains Land," targeted to open around 2028–2029 — so check a current map before you go. The park is large enough that most visitors set priorities rather than trying to see everything in one day.
Cinderella Castle and the nighttime fireworks/projection show (currently 'Happily Ever After') — the park's icon and the highlight of the day.
Tron Lightcycle / Run — the newest headliner coaster (2023); check the app in advance for its virtual queue / Individual Lightning Lane access.
Fantasyland's classic dark rides — Peter Pan's Flight, "it's a small world," and Seven Dwarfs Mine Train.
Adventureland and Frontierland staples — Pirates of the Caribbean, the Haunted Mansion, the refurbished-and-reopened Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, and Space Mountain.
Daytime parades (Festival of Fantasy) and seasonal special events, which change through the year — check the calendar.
Good to know
SeasonSummer (June–November) is hot and humid with near-daily afternoon thunderstorms, and it overlaps hurricane season. Bring water, sun protection and a poncho, and use indoor attractions during afternoon storms.
RulesStandard date-based tickets no longer require a separate park reservation, but annual passes and some non-dated tickets still may. Confirm the current policy in the official app or website.
RulesSkipping standby lines requires the paid Lightning Lane Multi Pass / Single Pass, booked in the app ahead of time. Prices vary by date and popular rides sell out, so book a few days before your visit.
CautionBuy tickets only from Disney or authorized sellers. People reselling used or 'discounted' tickets, and the 'free ticket' timeshare pitches common around Orlando, are frequently scams.
MannersTipping is customary in the US; sit-down (table-service) restaurants typically expect 18–20%. Counter and quick-service spots do not require a tip.
SafetyThere is a bag security screening at entry, and items like selfie sticks, tripods and large coolers are prohibited. Pickpocketing is rare, but keep belongings in front of you in crowds and secure loose items on rides.
MannersExpect to walk all day, so wear comfortable shoes; designated smoking areas are outside the park, and use the My Disney Experience app to manage wait times, mobile ordering and Lightning Lane.
Practical info
Magic Kingdom has no direct train or subway station; drivers park at the Transportation and Ticket Center (TTC) and cross Seven Seas Lagoon by monorail or ferry, while Disney resort guests use buses or the monorail. It typically opens around 9 AM and closes near 10–11 PM with date-based variation, so confirm hours, ticket prices and any reservation requirement on the official site.
