Location

Overview

Tucked into the northern end of Magicienne Bay on Saipan's east coast, Lau Lau Beach is a coral-ringed lagoon beach that stays calm almost year-round, making it one of Saipan's best all-around snorkel spots. The shallow lagoon is easy and safe for beginners to wade and float over coral and reef fish, while just past the drop-off snorkelers regularly encounter sea turtles (sighting rates here are unusually high), eagle rays, whitetip reef sharks, and napoleon wrasse. Visibility typically runs 20-30 m, though it can turn murky right around the exit channel. As of July 2026 the site is still reached via a rough, unpaved road and has no lifeguard, so going with a buddy or a local tour remains the safest way to enjoy it.

Practical info

Lau Lau Beach is about a 20-30 minute drive from Garapan/the airport area, with the final stretch on an unpaved dirt-and-coral road, so a 4WD vehicle or a tour pickup is recommended. There are no real facilities beyond a picnic shelter, so bring your own water and snacks, and consider booking a guided snorkel/dive trip out of Garapan for gear and local knowledge. Confirm current pricing, hours, and tour availability locally, as this is time-of-visit information as of July 2026.
