Land's End is the westernmost point of mainland England, a granite clifftop headland at the tip of Cornwall's Penwith peninsula facing the open Atlantic. It is best known as Britain's iconic 'end of the land', marked by the famous signpost recording the distance to John o'Groats and New York, with the offshore Longships Lighthouse framing the horizon. The natural clifftop walks are free to enter, but the visitor centre, family attractions and parking are run privately by the Land's End Landmark on a pay-as-you-go basis. In summer 2026 (23 July – 27 August) the site hosts pyrotechnic and drone displays every Tuesday and Thursday evening, so with limited public transport it pays to plan your timings and travel in advance.

SafetyMany cliff edges are unfenced and Atlantic winds and gusts are strong. Stand well back from the edge when taking photos and keep a close eye on children.
SeasonThe exposed Atlantic setting means the weather turns fast and fog is common even in high summer. Bring windproof/waterproof layers and sturdy footwear in July and August.
SeasonBuses from Penzance are infrequent outside peak season. In summer 2026 the Tuesday/Thursday evening (23 Jul–27 Aug) firework and drone shows can crowd the evening return, so check bus and taxi times ahead.
RulesAccess to the clifftop paths is free, but parking, individual attractions and the official signpost photo are all charged. Carry a card or cash and confirm current parking fees and opening hours on the official site before you go.
CautionThe 'official' commemorative photo at the signpost is a paid extra from the operator, not a requirement. You can take your own free photo from the side fence or at the First and Last House, so don't feel pressured into paying.
MannersOn the South West Coast Path keep to marked routes and respect wildlife such as nesting seabirds on the cliffs. Take all litter home and avoid entering grazing land or farmland along the clifftop.

The nearest railway station is Penzance, about 9 miles away, from where you continue by First/Go Cornwall bus (routes 1/1A/1B and the Land's End Coaster) or taxi. The clifftop walks are free; the site is roughly open 10:00–17:00, while parking and the individual attractions and signpost photo are paid (always check the latest fees and hours on the official website).
