🇦🇺 Lady Elliot Island

Lady Elliot Island · 호주 퀸즐랜드 남부 그레이트배리어리프

Location

Overview

Lady Elliot Island is a small coral cay at the very southern tip of the Great Barrier Reef, famous as the "Home of the Manta Ray" for the large mantas that gather here year-round. The sheltered eastern lagoon (about 0.5-2 m deep) is calm enough for first-timers and teems with green turtles, tropical fish and coral gardens, while the deeper western reef holds manta cleaning stations where you can watch mantas and reef sharks glide by just below the surface. Visibility is typically a clear 15-25 m, and as of 2026 the island remains a protected marine park reachable only by light aircraft, keeping its reef in exceptional condition.
