Komachi-dori is Kamakura's most famous tourist shopping street, in Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan. It runs roughly 350 meters north from a red torii gate just outside the east exit of JR Kamakura Station, parallel to the Wakamiya-oji avenue and toward Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine. Around 250 restaurants, souvenir shops, and cafes are packed along the narrow lane, making it a lively stroll for food and shopping.

RulesUnder a 2019 manners ordinance, Kamakura asks visitors not to eat while walking (tabearuki). There is no penalty, but use the benches or in-store eating areas that most vendors provide. (Confirm latest.)
MannersThe lane is narrow and crowded, so don't stop mid-street for photos or block foot traffic, and carry your trash out if no bin is available.
SeasonGolden Week (late Apr–early May), New Year, Obon (mid-Aug), June hydrangea season, and late-November autumn foliage bring shoulder-to-shoulder crowds.
SafetyIn peak crowds it's easy to be jostled or lose sight of children or companions, so hold hands; strollers and wheelchairs can find the lane very hard to navigate.
MannersMany of the narrow side alleys are residential, so keep noise down and don't wander onto private property.
Practical info
About a 30-second walk from the station's east exit. Shops generally open around 10:00 and close in the early evening around 18:00 (some by 17:30). Weekday mornings are best for avoiding crowds. Note the Enoden line's main entrance is on the west side of the station. Confirm hours and prices before visiting.
