🇹🇭 Khao San Road

ถนนข้าวสาร · 방콕

Location

Overview

Khao San Road is a roughly 400-meter backpacker strip in Bangkok's Old City (Phra Nakhon district), packed with cheap guesthouses, street food, bars, massage shops and market stalls. By day it dozes with half-shut shutters, fruit shakes and massage chairs; from evening until past midnight it comes alive with neon, music and crowds. It's also a handy base, within walking or short ferry distance of the Grand Palace, Wat Pho and Wat Arun.

Practical info

High (dry) season is Nov–Feb (cooler); Mar–May is hottest; Jun–Oct is rainy, so pack a light rain jacket. Grab or Bolt app rides avoid fare disputes. Use mosquito repellent at dusk (dengue is present), and stick to well-lit main stretches after midnight. Confirm prices, hours and rules on arrival.
