Kelingking Beach on the southwest coast of Nusa Penida island, near Bali, Indonesia, is a world-famous clifftop viewpoint known for its limestone headland shaped like a T-Rex, with an emerald bay and white-sand beach far below. SafetyThe trail down to the beach is brutally steep (70-80 degrees in sections) with rocky steps and rope segments; expect 30-45 minutes down and 60-90 minutes back up. Attempt it only in good shape, with grippy shoes and plenty of water.
SafetyCurrents and surf are dangerous and swimming has been officially prohibited since 2023; there have been fatal accidents (falls and drownings) here. Stay back from cliff edges and do not enter the water.
SeasonIn the wet season (roughly Nov-Mar), rain turns the descent genuinely dangerous with mud on steep rock. The dry season (Apr-Oct) brings calmer seas and a safer trail. Avoid descending near sunset, as climbing back up in the dark is very hazardous.
CautionOn Nusa Penida, scooter-rental damage claims are common: operators point to pre-existing scratches on return and demand payment. Before riding off, photograph and video the bike from every angle including the odometer and existing marks, and use reputable rental shops.

MannersWhen visiting temples or religious sites on the island, follow local Hindu etiquette: cover shoulders and knees and wear a sarong and sash. At the cliff, never cross safety barriers or strike risky poses for photos.
