In Badian, southwest Cebu (Philippines), Kawasan Falls canyoneering takes you down the Matutinao/Kanlaob River gorge with optional cliff jumps, rope descents, natural water slides and swims, ending at the emerald three-tiered Kawasan Falls. It is roughly a 3-hour drive from Cebu City and usually takes 3-5 hours. Near Moalboal, it is one of southern Cebu's signature adventures.
Optional cliff jumps of roughly 4-10 m, with walk-around routes if you prefer to climb down safely
Swimming, short rope descents and natural water slides through a turquoise canyon
The three-tiered Kawasan Falls and its emerald plunge pool at the finish
Jungle-gorge trekking over limestone scenery
A midway rest stop selling water and snacks
Good to know
SafetyThere is little to no mobile signal in the canyon and no on-site first-responder team. Fatal (2024) and rockfall-injury (2025) incidents have occurred, so skip jumps you are unsure about and always follow your guide.
SeasonHeavy rain upstream can turn the water brown and fast and raise flash-flood risk. Never enter if the water is brown or fast-moving; trips may be cancelled the same day, especially in the rainy season (roughly June-November).
CautionPrices are regulated by Badian/Cebu Province ordinances; deals far below the regulated rate are likely unlicensed and may cut corners on gear and guide accreditation. Book with a legitimate operator using LGU-accredited guides.
RulesHelmets and life vests are mandatory and an accredited guide is required. All cliff jumps are optional - do not let anyone pressure you, and never climb higher jump platforms that have been closed for safety after river-depth changes.
MannersTipping is customary in the Philippines; a small tip for a good guide is appreciated. Carry a dry bag and offline map, keep valuables minimal, and agree on habal-habal (motorbike taxi) and tricycle fares in advance (roughly 150-200 pesos one way).
Practical info
Fees, hours and which jump platforms are open change by season and ordinance, so confirm the latest before booking. The regulated rate is commonly quoted at around 2,000 pesos per person, but varies by operator and inclusions (lunch, round-trip transfer, gear). Bring swimwear, water/aqua shoes (or rent), a change of clothes, a towel, a dry bag and small cash. December-April (or March-June) dry season offers the clearest, safest water.
