🇺🇸 Katahdin (Baxter Peak)

Katahdin (Baxter Peak) · 미국 메인주 백스터 주립공원

Location

Overview

Katahdin (1,606 m) in Maine's Baxter State Park is both the highest point on and the northern terminus of the 3,530 km (2,190+ mile) Appalachian Trail (AT), marked by the famous wooden sign atop Baxter Peak that thru-hikers touch to mark their finish. Most northbound (NOBO) hikers who began the AT at Springer Mountain, Georgia, and crossed 14 states complete their five-to-six-month journey here. The final approach along the Knife Edge ridge narrows to about a meter in places, making it one of the most exposed and demanding stretches of trail in the eastern United States.
