Kasbah Taourirt is a large earthen (rammed-earth) fortress-palace set on a hill in the center of Ouarzazate, southern Morocco, and one of the country's largest clay-built kasbahs. Raised in the 17th-18th centuries and greatly expanded in the 19th century by the powerful Glaoui family, it served as their military and administrative stronghold controlling the trans-Saharan caravan routes, and is famous for its labyrinth of some 300 rooms. It is a landmark of Ouarzazate, the 'Hollywood of Morocco' home to Atlas Studios, and has appeared on screen in films such as Gladiator and Prince of Persia. Following damage from the September 2023 earthquake, restoration is under way and the visitable area is currently limited; the site is a centerpiece of the tourism-revival plan announced for Ouarzazate in 2025.

SeasonIn July-August afternoon temperatures often top 40C. Visit early morning or near sunset and bring water, a hat, sunscreen, and sunglasses.
CautionUnofficial 'faux guides' near the entrance may offer a tour and then demand a high fee. If you want a guide, agree the price clearly before starting.
MannersThis is a Muslim country, so modest dress covering shoulders and knees is best. Some quarters are still inhabited, so ask permission before photographing residents.

The kasbah sits in central Ouarzazate opposite Atlas Studios and is reachable on foot from town; from Marrakech, CTM/Supratours buses take about 4 hours over the Tizi n'Tichka pass, or you can fly into Ouarzazate Airport (OZZ). Official sources list daily hours of 08:00-18:30 and an adult ticket of about 50 dirhams, but ongoing restoration may change the open areas, hours, and price, so verify the latest details before visiting.
