Inwangsan (338.2m) is a granite mountain rising just west of Gyeongbokgung Palace in central Seoul, straddling the Jongno and Seodaemun districts. A section of the Joseon-era Seoul City Wall runs along its ridge, and the summit delivers a sweeping panorama of Namsan, the palaces and the downtown skyline for a relatively short climb. It is also the subject of Gyeomjae Jeong Seon's National Treasure painting 'Inwangjesaekdo' and a revered center of Korean shamanism at Seonbawi Rock and the Guksadang shrine.

SafetyThe trail crosses bare granite slabs and steep, rocky sections that get slick. Wear grippy hiking shoes and take extra care after rain and on winter ice.
SafetyWild boars live on Inwangsan and have been reported near the loop trail and springs. Stay on marked trails; if you meet one, do not turn your back or run—back away slowly and quietly, and call 119 in an emergency.
MannersReal shamanic rituals (gut) are frequently held at Guksadang and Seonbawi. It is disrespectful to photograph the ceremonies or linger up close—pass by quietly.
SeasonThe rocky ridge offers little shade, so summer sun and heat are intense. Carry plenty of water and prefer early morning or sunset over the midday heat.
RulesApart from the LED-lit wall section there is no path lighting, so night hiking is not officially recommended—plan to descend before dark and bring a headlamp. As a mountain that was closed for military reasons and only reopened in 1993, follow all signs and any restricted-area notices.
Practical info
Easiest access is from Dongnimmun Station or Gyeongbokgung Station (Subway Line 3). Allow 2–2.5 hours round trip; it pairs well with the nearby Buam-dong and Seochon cafe streets for a half-day outing. There is no entry fee, but check current opening hours and any restricted zones before you go.
