Intramuros is Manila's Spanish-era walled city, begun in 1571 under Miguel Lopez de Legazpi and ringed by roughly 4.5 km of thick stone ramparts. Inside you'll find cobbled streets, colonial architecture, centuries-old churches and forts, making it the most historic district in the capital. A half-day on foot is enough to cover the main sights.

San Agustin Church: the oldest stone church in the Philippines and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with an adjoining museum.
