Hyde Park is a roughly 140-hectare (350-acre) Royal Park in the heart of Westminster, London, and one of the city's best-loved green spaces since it was opened from former royal hunting grounds. It is famous for the Serpentine lake, Speakers' Corner (a global symbol of free speech), and the Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fountain, and admission is free. As of July 2026 it is peak summer: boating and swimming on the Serpentine and the rose garden are at their best, and this time of year the large BST Hyde Park music festival takes over part of the park. It rewards an unhurried half-day of strolling and picnicking rather than a rushed tick-list visit.

CautionWatch for pickpockets around Speakers' Corner, Marble Arch and other crowded spots. Wear bags in front and keep your phone and wallet out of back pockets.
SeasonJuly and August can be hot with little shade, so bring water, a hat and sunscreen. Summer 2026 has been dry, and some grass areas may be restricted for wildfire prevention.
SeasonSerpentine Lido swimming typically runs June to mid-September, and boat hire April to October only. If you plan to swim or boat, check current opening dates first.
RulesDuring the summer BST concerts (July) and Winter Wonderland (November–January), parts of the park are fenced off or become ticketed event areas. Check which areas are open before you go.
MannersSitting or lying on the lawns is generally fine, but keep off the flower beds, and take litter home or use recycling bins. Dogs must be kept under control in designated areas.
SafetyThe park closes at midnight and some paths are poorly lit at night, so avoid walking alone in quiet areas late in the day, and stay clear of the dedicated cycle lanes when strolling.

Hyde Park is a few minutes' walk from Central line (Lancaster Gate, Marble Arch) and Piccadilly line (Hyde Park Corner, Knightsbridge) stations at its corners; pedestrian gates open daily from 5am to midnight and entry is free. Prices and hours for paid or seasonal facilities — Serpentine boats and the Lido, BST concerts and Winter Wonderland — should always be confirmed on the official sites before your visit.
