Honcho Street (Honcho-dori, also called Fujimichi) is a retro shopping district in Fujiyoshida, Yamanashi, that became a globally viral photo spot for its view of Mount Fuji towering head-on above Showa-era signs and tangled overhead wires. The road runs dead straight toward Fuji, so the peak appears to sit at the end of the street, drawing thousands of visitors a day. Once a fading high street, it has been revived by tourism with new shops opening.

SafetyThis is a busy main road with heavy car traffic and it is genuinely dangerous. Do not step into the roadway for photos; shoot from the sidewalk.
RulesTraffic police and local patrols are stationed here and repeatedly order people off the road. Follow their instructions and do not stop to shoot on the crosswalk.
MannersThis is both a shopping street and a residential area. Real problems have included tourists knocking on residents' doors to borrow toilets, relieving themselves in yards, and dumping litter. Never do this.
MannersShoot quietly and take your trash with you. Do not block non-designated alleys or paths for photos, and keep clear of routes used by emergency vehicles.
SeasonDuring cherry-blossom season (around April) crowding is extreme; tour buses and vehicles are restricted and security is increased, so plan to arrive on foot.
Practical info
Nearest station is Shimoyoshida on the Fujikyu Railway Line, about a 5-10 minute walk. Reachable from Shinjuku by highway bus. The street itself is free and open at all times with no entry fee (verify shop and parking fees separately). A municipal Honcho-dori parking lot exists but fills up, so public transit is recommended.
