🇯🇵 Hateno-hama Sandbar

はての浜 · 오키나와 구메지마

Location

Overview

Floating roughly 5–7 km off Kume Island's east coast, Hateno-hama is a pristine white sandbar often called 'the most beautiful in the Orient' and one of Okinawa's signature snorkeling spots. A 20–30 minute boat ride brings you to a shallow lagoon reef where beginners can wade straight in, with 1–4 m depths and 15–25 m visibility revealing coral gardens, schools of tropical fish, and, with luck, a sea turtle. As of July 2026, boat tours are running daily through the peak June–September season, with water temperatures around 26–29°C.
