🇵🇱 Gubałówka Hill

Gubałówka · 자코파네

Location

Overview

Gubałówka is the signature viewpoint hill on the Gubałówka ridge, rising directly above the mountain resort town of Zakopane in southern Poland and facing the Tatra Mountains. From its top (about 1,123 m; the funicular's upper station sits at 1,122 m) you get a sweeping panorama of Zakopane and the Tatra peaks, which on clear days extend into Slovakia — making it one of the easiest ways to enjoy alpine-scale views without a demanding hike. As of 2026 the historic funicular railway (kolej linowo-terenowa), opened in 1938, runs year-round and reaches the summit in about 3.5 minutes. It is an especially low-effort outing for families and older travelers.

Practical info

The lower station is a short walk from Zakopane's main Krupówki pedestrian street, and Zakopane itself is about two hours by bus or train from Kraków. The funicular generally runs from around 9:00 until evening (extended in summer), but fares, hours, and the operation of the Butorowy Wierch chairlift and the slide vary by season and weather, so always check the official PKL website for the latest before you go.
