Overview
The GR54 Tour de l'Oisans circles the Oisans massif inside France's Écrins National Park, established in 1973, over roughly 180km and 10-11 days, and is considered one of the toughest GR routes in France. It crosses several passes above 2,900m, and while it involves no glacier crossings, the terrain is very rugged rock and scree. La Bérarde (1,738m), at the end of a dead-end valley road, is a historic mountaineering base known as the gateway to La Meije (3,983m).
