Overview
Aigüestortes i Estany de Sant Maurici National Park is Catalonia's only national park (designated 1955), scattering more than 200 glacial lakes (estanys) across a granite landscape. The roughly 840km GR11 ('Senda Pirenaica'), which crosses the entire Spanish Pyrenees from Cabo de Higuer to Cap de Creus, runs through the park. Peaks such as Els Encantats (2,748m), rising directly above Lake Sant Maurici, are a signature viewpoint.

Good to know
RulesCamping is banned in the park; overnight stays are only allowed at staffed refuges or designated high bivouac zones (typically 7pm-9am).
SafetySummer thunderstorms build quickly over the exposed ridges in early afternoon; aim to be off high terrain by 1-2pm.
SeasonMany passes hold snow into June; late June through September is the reliable window.
·The two main access valleys are Espot and Boí; vehicle access inside the park is restricted to authorized taxis.
